Urban Homes is a New York City design showroom specializing in custom kitchens, cabinetry, closets, bathroom vanities, interior doors, and other interior solutions for private homes and multi-unit residential buildings. Urban Homes was founded in 2005 and brings together three generations of kitchen industry experience with European design, advanced cabinetry systems, technical know-how, and a high degree of personalization in its service. From our showroom in Manhattan, we work directly with homeowners and collaborate with interior designers, architects, builders, contractors, and developers on projects in New York, across North America, and around the world. Our philosophy has remained consistent for more than two decades: Thoughtful design, technical expertise, quality products, and personal service.

Our History

Three Generations of Kitchen Expertise

Urban Homes’ history began long before we opened our New York showroom. It is built on three generations of experience in the kitchen and cabinetry industry and has always valued craftsmanship, functionality, innovation, and design. Urban Homes was founded in New York City in 2005 to adopt a more specialized, design-oriented approach to kitchens and custom cabinetry. Right from the start, we turned to European—specifically Italian—design, mixing refined aesthetics with innovative cabinet systems, materials, engineering, and functionality.

Our First Manhattan Showroom

Urban Homes opened its first showroom on 11th Avenue in Manhattan in the year 2005. We started here by presenting our method of designing custom kitchens and European-style cabinetry to homeowners in New York and to the professional design world. When the company grew and our ranges expanded, we aimed at setting up an atmosphere which would better reflect the course of Urban Homes and the more architectural character of our work.

A new showroom. A new chapter.

In 2008 Urban Homes moved into our present showroom, which is located in the lively Meatpacking District of Manhattan, thus setting up a modern setting in which clients and design professionals could see the cabinetry, the materials, the appliances, the finishes, the interior doors and all other interior solutions for themselves. This step represented a major phase in our evolution; the showroom ceased to be merely a place where kitchen cabinetry could be bought and instead became a design destination and a practical resource for homeowners, interior designers, architects, builders, and developers. Over the years, our capabilities have grown far beyond kitchens to include closets, bathroom vanities, storage systems, interior doors, outdoor kitchens, appliances, and other integrated interior solutions.

More Than 20 Years of Design

Starting from 2005 Urban Homes has been involved in a variety of projects, including small apartments in Manhattan and townhouses in Brooklyn, as well as large custom homes and multi-unit residential developments. In those years, there has been a dramatic change in the role of the kitchen. The kitchen has shifted from a functional room to one of the most important architectural and social areas in the house. Appliances are now more sophisticated, storage has become more intelligent, advances have been made in materials and manufacturing technologies, and the distinction between the kitchen, dining room, and living areas has increasingly vanished. Urban Homes has grown up with those changes while still sticking to the principles on which the company was founded. We are now bringing together over two decades of experience gained in New York with three generations’ worth of knowledge in the field of kitchen design and other kinds of interior solutions.

Urban Homes still focuses on residential design. We serve people renovating apartments, building new homes, converting townhouses, and designing holiday homes. Some clients come directly to our Manhattan showroom, while others work with us through their architect or interior designer. We assist in turning the designer’s creative vision into cabinetry that can be engineered, manufactured, delivered, and successfully installed. We help with layouts, custom dimensions, materials, finishes, interior arrangement, appliance integration, technical details, and manufacturing requirements. The designer leads the creative direction and maintains the relationship with the client.

Working With Architects

Integrating Cabinetry Into the Architecture. In designing a kitchen, the considerations extend beyond the cabinetry since plumbing, electrical work, ventilation, lighting, the flooring, the ceilings, the appliances, and the architectural features all have to be coordinated. Urban Homes collaborates with architects at every stage of the planning and construction process by providing detailed cabinetry information and technical drawings that contractors, appliance suppliers, fabricators, and other professionals can use for coordination. Working on the project early helps incorporate cabinetry into the architecture before it reaches a point where changes become difficult or expensive.

Working With Builders & Contractors

Urban Homes is specialized in design and the supply of products, not in general contracting. We act as the specialized cabinetry partner for builders and contractors, supplying them with the drawings, dimensions, specifications, information about the appliances, and the technical requirements needed for correct site preparation and coordination. By adopting this focused method, each professional can concentrate on the area in which they are expert.

We have designed and supplied custom kitchens and cabinetry for projects in New York, New Jersey, New England, Washington, D.C., Georgia, Florida, Colorado, and California, as well as in the Caribbean, Europe, and the Middle East. Our team’s experience across regions has given us the ability to coordinate projects when the client, architect, interior designer, contractor, manufacturer, and job site are in different cities—or even different countries. For any projects that are not based in New York, our team can work remotely with the local architect, designer, builder, and installation team. Because of our detailed drawings, specifications, technical coordination, knowledge of manufacturing, and experience in logistics we are able to carry out projects all over North America and abroad.
